PistolStar Releases New Version of Password Power Password Management Software

Version 8 makes it easier to add new application passwords to an existing Password Power installation, adds IBM iSeries, SAP, Citrix
and Oracle support

Nashua, NH, September 19, 2005 - PistolStar today announced the latest version of its innovative Password Power password management solution. Version 8, formerly known under the project name ForwardPass, is built on an updated framework that makes it easier to add product upgrades and new application passwords. Version 8 also adds support for the IBM iSeries (AS400), SAP, Citrix thin client and Oracle.

PistolStar Password Power simplifies the complex authentication process, eliminating user frustration and the unnecessary IT expense associated with forgotten passwords and poor password policies. Password Power users typically achieve a return on their investment in about 30 days.

The key to Password Power is its password synchronization functionality. Password Power supports two methods of password synchronization: the conventional approach and a unique proprietary approach called Authentication Redirection.

With Authentication Redirection, the network directory password becomes the user’s single password for all business applications. This results in the elimination of multiple password stores, the associated storage, and user burden. Unlike conventional password synchronization techniques, Password Power reduces the password prompts to one, the network password. This eliminates annoying password prompts at each application. In Version 8, the Authentication Redirection functionality is extended to Lotus Notes on a Citrix thin client and SAP, allowing single sign-on to these applications. Applications previously supported by Authentication Redirection are Lotus Notes, Domino, Sametime and QuickPlace.

For certain applications and platforms, Password Power uses conventional password synchronization. In Password Power 8, we expanded the password synchronization functionality to include IBM iSeries and Oracle. The same, synchronized password can now be used to access these systems. Applications previously supported by conventional password synchronization include Lotus Notes, Domino, Sametime, QuickPlace, Sun ONE and LDAP.

Password Power supports self-service password resets, using a client-driven challenge-response model and eliminates the weak points in password policy. Automatic execution of password security policies such as password quality and password expiration ensures compliance with privacy and data confidentiality standards.

The new product framework has been optimized for client-side operation, and ensures that support for additional platforms and products can be added to an installation more simply than ever before.

“Businesses evolve, and thus need to deploy new software applications and platforms all the time, especially in these days of mergers and consolidations. One of our principal goals is to make things simpler and easier for our customers, so we wanted to make sure that Password Power could easily adapt to their changing networks,” said PistolStar president and CEO Tom Hoey. “With the new product framework, when a customer wants to add a new password, all he has to do is install the appropriate PistolStar plug-in module. There’s no need to redeploy or install a different version of the Password Power software.”

PistolStar Password Power integrates with LDAP directories such as Microsoft Active Directory, Sun ONE, Domino, and Novell eDirectory, as well as IBM Lotus technology. As a result of the company’s unique experience in the Lotus Notes/Domino space, Password Power is the leading password management solution for Lotus Notes installations.

Focused on the single problem of effective password management, Password Power easily integrates with both the existing computing environment and identity access management systems. Typically, companies achieve a return on their investment in Password Power in about four to six weeks.
