PistolStar Releases Significant Upgrade of Password Power, a Leading Single Sign-On and Self-Service Password Reset Solution

Password Power Version 7.0 Enables Authentication Redirection to Windows, Microsoft Active Directory, and LDAP for Accessing Lotus Notes Clients and Domino Servers - Allows Use of Windows Password for Unlocking the Notes ID

Amherst, NH, October 25, 2004 - Continuing its quest to simplify password authentication and enterprise system access, PistolStar announces Password Power version 7.0, a new upgrade that further delivers login ease, password management convenience, time savings, reduced Help Desk calls, and increased productivity for end-users and administrators. Password Power 7.0 offers significant new functionality in addition to its standard features - single sign-on, self-service password resets, authentication redirection to a single directory, and automatic execution of password security policies such as password quality and password expiration. New features include the following:

  • Windows Password Reset - End-users forgetting their Windows login password can set a new one by correctly answering a challenge question set previously on their computer. Available from the Windows logon screen, this feature supports domain accounts (Windows or Active Directory) and local accounts.
  • Login to Lotus Notes clients using Network Logon credentials - End-users logging into Notes, whether they are online or off, will be prompted for their network username and password, which can be Microsoft Active Directory, Novell eDirectory or SunONE Directory Server. If an end-user forgets their network password, answering the challenge question will give them immediate access to the Notes client. By facilitating authentication with network logon credentials, password synchronization of the Notes ID is no longer required.
  • Single Sign-On to Notes clients using Network Logon credentials
  • Lotus Notes ID Password Reset/Recovery - Previously announced, this new feature allows end-users to self-service their Windows and Notes client passwords when both Windows Password Reset and Notes client Network Logon (described above) are enabled and their directory password (Microsoft Active Directory, Novell eDirectory, and Sun ONE LDAP) is used as their Network Logon. Using their Windows password, end-users can unlock the Notes ID password automatically.

"PistolStar's number one goal is to respond to customer needs and requests by delivering capabilities that will facilitate smoother and faster logons, maintain password and system security, and positively impact the organization's bottom line," states PistolStar president, Thomas Hoey. "Since more and more companies are moving to a single directory, such as Microsoft Active Directory or LDAP, we have enhanced the authentication process for both Lotus Notes clients and Domino by enabling end-users to authenticate using their directory or Windows password. By further simplifying access to the multiple platforms, servers and applications end-users have on their systems and enabling self-service password resets and recovery, Password Power frees the time and resources used by IT to respond to password-related issues, and saves time and increases productivity for both administrators and end-users."

More About Password Power
Originally developed and introduced by PistolStar in 2001, Password Power is a single sign-on solution that removes the need for separate passwords for Lotus Notes (including the Notes ID file), iNotes, Domino Internet applications, Sametime Connect, and Windows operating systems. Using their password for Microsoft Active Directory, SunONE LDAP, or Novell eDirectory, end-users logon only once and access all applications on Domino servers in multiple domains. Password policy management is no longer needed, as Password Power automatically transfers Windows password policy rules to other passwords and simplifies the coordination of disparate password policies.

Systems Requirements
Password Power is a client-side solution with an optional server component that integrates seamlessly and doesn't require end-user setup. Password Power's server-side capabilities support Windows, Linux, Solaris, and IBM AIX 5.1. On the client side, Password Power supports Microsoft Windows NT, 2000, and XP.
